The Gathering Place

Memorial Garden

On July 12, 2005, The Gathering Place dedicated its Memorial Garden with these words from Gary Pitkin:

"'When words escape, flowers speak,' wrote poet Bruce W. Currie. Perhaps this is one reason gardens are installed as a way to keep memory alive. A floral memorial may not heal the heart, but it is a way to establish a living legacy for a departed soul.

Gardens mean many things to us.

For some they're a place of beauty, a place of quiet reflection, a place for meditation, connection and memory.

It is particularly fitting to think of this garden as a place of reflection and connection with those whom we have lost and remember.

Let us take a moment to remember as I read the names of

those in our hearts and memories:

Edith and Harry Baron

Mary Alice Bedell

Leo Berman

Dorothy Bickford

Margery Bunker

Betty Fajans

Roberta Haynes

Allen and Stella Herbert

Carolyn Lent

Mary Mitchell

Jim Petrie

Denny Pett

Phyllis Roberts

Lenny Salamone

Gardens are special places that help to evoke feelings and memories. It is fitting that the beauty before us, enables each of us the opportunity for connection with our lives and our memories.

The beauty of this garden will enable this for all of us.

May the flowers speak."

We, the board, staff and friends of The Gathering Place, dedicate, on this day, our Memorial Garden.

We honor those who had the vision to see this project through. We celebrate their patience, their perseverance, and their commitment to our community.

We are grateful to those who contributed their time and money, those who ensured that this garden would be the place of beauty it has become.

May this garden continue to be a place where our memories are held safe and where our lives can be pondered.

May it be a haven for reflection, a playground of recollection, and a treasured reminder of the ways in which all our lives have been touched by those we have loved and lost.

Most of all, may it be a place where we can celebrate the blessing that is this community and the gift that is our living.
